In her book "Things Seen and
Unseen", Nora Gallagher reflects on her spiritual journey, moving from
visiting the church as a "tourist" to committed membership. In one of her
reflections she muses, "Sometimes I think faith is only about increasing
peripheral vision, peripheral hearing."
Gallagher also defines claiming identity as a steward
of the gifts of God.
Being a steward is about viewing a wider panorama:
seeing the world as the realm of God's reconciling ministry
perceiving human need close by and far beyond glimpsing the wide range of
the church's ministry and mission finding a place to share
one's gifts and commitment. Being a steward is about listening:
hearing the voices of those in need attending to the cries of the world
responding to the insights of brothers and sisters in faith.
Stewardship
leadership enables the family of faith to see and hear in new ways. It
widens the range of seeing and hearing. Evaluate your stewardship ministry
with this criterion: how are we stretching the dimensions of our
members' seeing and hearing? ADVENT serves the religious community
with a full range of stewardship and funds development services. Contact
