CareerScope FAQ - ARCHIVE LIST
The following questions/error messages are primarily from Pre-Version 8
CareerScope systems, or have only been asked occasionally. They are
grouped using the same categories as the FAQ table. Use your scroll bar to
navigate through the tables until you find the section you need, or use CTRL-F
to search for a keyword.
Installing CareerScope
|
Question or error:
|
What to do:
|
API library not found
|
Click “Ignore”. CareerScope should install successfully. If it doesn’t
install correctly, then uninstall, and make certain that all CareerScope files are
deleted by doing a file find for “Cscope”. Then re-install CareerScope.
|
Bad image
|
May occur on a Windows NT 4.0 system. Click OK. Another message will appear - Click OK. Continue with installation.
|
Command cannot be issued on a table with cursors in table buffering mode.
Variable not found. Selector not found.
|
Log into the computer as an administrator. Map the local workstation to the
correct shared drive or server. (Every system is different, therefore, VRI tech
support can tell you what should be mapped, but cannot assist you in the
actual mapping of the drive).
If that doesn’t solve it,
Log into the computer as an administrator. Set the User Permissions for the
CSCOPE folder(s) on the local and network* drive(s) to include Modify, Read,
and Write. If you are running XP workstations, you will also need to set the
User Permissions for the DBFs folder(s) on the local and network* drive(s) to
include Full Control. The DBFs folder is located within the CSCOPE folder.
(*This only applies to users running a networked installation of CareerScope.)
If you do not have administrator rights to your computer, contact your IT department.
|
Corrupt installation detected for first time installations or upgrades
|
This may appear when installing on a workstation that has hardware or software
issues unrelated to CareerScope. Install CareerScope on another workstation.
If there is a Cscope.dbf on the problem machine, copy and paste the Cscope.dbf
to the desktop (If there is data that you need to save.) Uninstall the software.
Then, try to reinstall CareerScope.
|
DeepFreeze or Fortress
|
You must disable Fortress to install CareerScope so CareerScope
can write to the registry. Fortress must be set so it does not put any
restrictions on the CareerScope folders (and every folder/subfolder within CareerScope).
In the Fortress settings, configure CareerScope as “Privileged Program”. Also, there is a
configuration setting that allows the administrator to check and uncheck the files or folders
that Fortress will be protecting. Uncheck the box next to the Temp folder in the
Windows directory so that a dot appears next to it.
DeepFreeze must be turned off during installation and when evaluees use
CareerScope. For more information on these or other security programs,
contact the appropriate vendor.
|
Field name duplicate or invalid
|
May appear when upgrading from version 3.5. Click “Ignore”.
When computer returns to the desktop, offload any unused administrations to a
CareerScope wallet, backup the database, uninstall and check to see if the registry
has been cleaned of the VRI key (local machine, software, VRI). If a VRI key exists
then delete it and reinstall CareerScope.
|
Install stalls at 98%
|
This may occur during the installation process of
Metered CareerScope pre version 6.0 and is a CareerScope
wallet issue. The wallet may be corrupt if the installation stalls at
98% for at least 3 minutes. If it never gets past 98%, click Cancel.
Restart the computer and then reinstall CareerScope.
|
OAP error or Error writing to file
|
Click Cancel. Installation will continue. Verify the functionality
of the installation by launching Assessment Tasks and entering an
ID code successfully.
|
Success Profiler
|
This program may interfere with CareerScope. Install CareerScope first and then install Success Profiler.
|
Virtual PC
|
Customers have said that CS installs and runs on MACs with
Virtual PC - but VRI makes no claim to have tested this configuration.
Check your RAM and Virtual PC specs.

Put the CS CD into the computer. Cancel out of the installation if it begins
automatically. Click on My Computer, and right click the CD ROM drive. Select Open.
Click on the Utilities folder, and in that folder click on Sysinstall. After this file runs,
restart the computer and launch the CareerScope Management System. (If you are running V7.0,

Error Opening Alternate dbf "Cscope.dbf is already open or may not be a Cscope database."
|
Make sure nobody is currently in the Assessment Tasks
or Management system, then try again.
If that doesn’t solve it,
This message may appear when you are trying to open an alternate
database or merge a database into the main Cscope database, when
the selected dbf is also named “Cscope” and is on the desktop.
Rename the dbf (and the CDX file if there is one) and put it/them in
a folder in a different location from the desktop. Restart the computer
and then try to open the dbf as an alternate database.
|
Function Argument Value Type Invalid (in the Metered Version of CareerScope ONLY)
|
Backup the database manually (Go to the CSCOPE folder where
your Management system is. Open the DBFs folder. Copy the
Cscope.dbf and the Cscope.cdx to a location outside the Cscope folder).
Uninstall CareerScope. Then reinstall CareerScope, and load the account
with enough administrations to exceed the number of "in progress"
administrations on the backed up database. Then, merge the backed up
database into the newly installed Cscope.dbf.
|
I can't find the data from some of the assessments that have been completed.
|
Do a search for a 2nd CS database - check to see if the record was written there.
If not, Management system may have been opened while Assessments were running.
This can cause database corruption and records to not be saved.
|
