Christmas in Bethlehem

Come with us and enjoy historic Bethlehem, PA. Shunning the major highways, we'll travel scenic byways through Montgomery, Bucks and Lehigh counties to Rt. 412, which takes us into Bethlehem past the monster buildings of the dormant Bethlehem Steel facilities (to be opened as an industrial museum operated by The Smithsonian). Let's lunch at Granny McCarthy's, modeled after a Yorkshire tea room. The food we found excellent, with selections from scones, soda bread, shepherds pie, Cornish pasties, quiche (the salmon was outstanding), tarts, soups (the potato and leek was oh-boy!). Then we'll do the shops in Donegal Square and surrounding area. Next is a walking tour of the Moravian Churches nestled in the College area. Chirstkindlmarkt is the next stop, featuring 100 craftsmen demostrating and offering their wares; strolling minstrels entertain. And finally, if we are so disposed, a bit of dinner at the historic 1758 Sun Inn. Then, tucked in the van, we'll glimpse the Bethlehem star and come home, arms full of experiences and, perhaps, things from under the tree. Leave church at 9:45 a.m. back by 8:30 p.m. Cost $10 for transportation, lunch, $11 tour, $4 for Christkindlmarkt, dinnner, shopping. Lovely outing.
